I first heard of the word Flow on the Oprah show and I have been fascinated with it ever since. It is a interesting concept, flow is a state mind that you experience when you are completely immersed in a activity. Think for a moment, is there one activity that you do that you don’t even realize that time is passing because you are so completely focused and happy with what you are doing that you fail to even realize the sun has set and you skipped dinner? That is called Flow. Everyone experiences flow in different activities some experience it while playing sports or some(like me) experience it while doing something creative such as writing, drawing, painting, graphic design, etc. Some say Flow hints at what you are passionate about. When you are in this state of Flow you accomplish so much, so how can you translate this to energy when you really need it?
The first thing you need to do is make sure the task you are working on is challenging to some degree. If the task is too easy then you will get bored and most likely won’t be able to truly focus on it.
The next thing you have to do is remove any distractions. When you’re in a state of Flow you aren’t worried about a text message that has came through or worried about the future. You are completely immersed in the present moment. Turn off your phone, cancel all noise and really focus. It may help to practice mindfulness and apply those techniques when you want to get into Flow.
Flow is a state of mind that allows you to get so much done if you are just able to get in the right mindset. Allowing yourself to focus and use Flow to your advantage and enjoy getting tasks done.
